Today I am craving white pizza. I would have loved to have called a friend and said lets go to the Crystal Bar tonight and get a white pizza. I love their pizza its so filled with goodies and cheese!
It would have been nice but not affordable. Not to be daunted I went though my refrigerator and came up with all but three things I needed to make this pizza. So off to Price Chopper I went. I needed Ricotta Cheese (that was 0n sale at Price Chopper ) Italian Sausage (I needed only a quarter of a pound so I stopped at the butcher department to get it. Doing this saved me a bundle of money because I could get exactly what I needed and no more.) and black olives.

Total cost at the store was five dollars. I am not going to let you down dinner will come in on budget don't worry because there will be lots of left overs from what your making for other meals later this week.
I have some left over Italian bread that I bought earlier this week at Wal-Mart for ninety nine cents and will make the pizza crust from that. It will make two pizzas and there will be enough pizza left over for lunch the next day. I will use only one half of the bread and I will be able to freeze the other half of the pizza for another meal because there is more than enough for one person if you only eat half of the pizza.

This is the receipt for the stuffed white pizza that my white pizza will be based on that I am made for dinner.
WHITE PIZZA
16 oz. (1 lg.) Italian bread shell
1/3 c. plus 2 tbsp. olive oil
1 sm. onion, cut into rings
15 oz. container of Ricotta cheese
4 oz. or 1/2 c. Mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/3 c. grated Italian cheese
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. basil
1/3 c. plus 2 tbsp. olive oil
1 sm. onion, cut into rings
15 oz. container of Ricotta cheese
4 oz. or 1/2 c. Mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/3 c. grated Italian cheese
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. basil
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Over medium heat sauté onion in olive oil until limp and brown. Add spices on simmer few seconds. Add Ricotta cheese. Continue to stir until mixture has a somewhat curdled look ( I like the taste of fresh Ricotta so I don't do this step I just mix it and use it but you can do it if you wish. You decide). Remove from heat, add grated cheese. Spread on pizza shell. Sprinkle with Mozzarella cheese. Bake on pizza pan or cookie sheet for 20 to 30 minutes until cheese starts to brown.
Now here is where we save money on this yummy treat. I follow the basics. I use the left over Italian bread for my crust but if you don't have the Italian bread and you don't want to buy it use whats in your bread box. For example if you have Pita pockets they make wonderful stuffed pizza just to give you one idea. Think outside of the box and use what you have. First I took the left over Italian bread cut it down the middle and took the center out of it.( I will toast up the pieces later to make croutons or bread crumbs) Don't remove all bread in the middle but just enough to make little wells in the center of the bread to hold the cheese and veggies I will be putting in the bread later.
I then basted the bread with olive oil and garlic and browned it in the oven ( what your making if you think about it is a little like garlic bread) so it would not get soggy when the filling is added. While the bread is in the oven make the filling. Add the sausage and the veggies you chose to a pan with a little olive oil and garlic and brown the sausage and cook the veggies while you wait for the crust to be done (don't over brown the bread it will get too crispy.)
Once the bread was out of the oven I put half of the Ricotta cheese in each of the little wells I had made to hold to filling and then topped the Ricotta with the veggies black olives and the sausage I had cooked Topping that off with the mozzarella and sprinkled Parmesan cheese on it.
I love black olives on my pizza I cannot eat pizza without them. I can thank Pizza Hut and their super supreme pizza from years ago. I got addicted and that has not changed. You may not like black olives so don't use them use what tastes good to you. Remember this is about you its not about me. I am just sharing ideas with you.

So any way I loaded up the bread and made my pizza and put it in the oven for fifteen minutes to melt the cheese and cook the Ricotta.
It looked so good and smelled awesome! I have to confess when I took it out of the oven I took a fork and tasted it. It was so good I could have eaten it right there and then but controlled the urge because it's for dinner and I will appreciate it more when I do get to eat it later. (Once and a while I do have some self control!)
I had half the Ricotta and a lot of the veggies and sausage left over after the stuffed pizza was made. I would make my version of Lasagna later this week using some left over sauce and the Ricotta cheese and vegetables.
Dinner time has come and gone. The White Pizza was outstanding and very filling. I have enough left over for dinner tomorrow night if I want to have it again.
