First Part Of Your Summer Servival Kit

Summer Survival Kit Part 1

Last week we had all the Memorial Day sales in the newspaper including groceries.
I decided it was a good time to get the majority of what I needed for summer meals since there were so many great sales.
While shopping I found a few new products that will fit in  my summer dinner survival kit for days that are just too warm to bother cooking.
The first one is the Perdue Simple Smart Roasted Chicken Chunks.
It is an  already cooked product in an reclosable 22 oz bag.
I found this product to be a really goodvalue with great flavor.
I think I liked it because Perdue uses common ingredients while cooking these chicken chunks such as sea salt, unbleached wheat, garlic,
Thyme, cracked black pepper, and olive oil.
What is not to love on that list of flavors?
Besides connivance, price, and taste the other important detail I had to check out was the nutritional content before this connivance food could go on my shopping list.
I made sure of what was in the chicken and how it was cooked. I didn’t want any surprises of too much fat, sugars or additives when I was ready to use this chicken.
Like most well known brands there was a Perdue site that gave me all this information and once I was satisfied with the information it finally went on my list.
It is no longer ok for me to buy just for the sake of a sale. I feel it is not a good buy if it is not a healthy choice as well.

I noticed that Perdue had several other readymade simple chicken selections such as:
Lightly breaded chicken strips, lightly breaded chicken filets, lightly breaded
Chicken chunks, original grilled chicken strips and what I bought the original roasted chicken chunks.
I chose the chunks for two reasons. First it was the original item that Perdue sold in this readymade format so I figured it also would be the most developed taste wise and second and most important it was what I thought would be most versable for day to day use and saves me the most  money.
Yesterday I decided to give these chicken chunks a try.
It was a hot wet humid day and cooking was not what I wanted to do but of course when dinner time came around I was hungry. I am always hungry and even with the weather the way it was it did not stop my appetite. But what to do to satisfy my hunger and be easy to make?
I decided that I wanted something cold and made up a chopped salad. I kept it simple I used lettuce, onion green onion, celery, and grape tomatoes. I then added some of my trail mix of nuts and fruit that I get at the Dollar Tree and find the perfect addition to a toss salad.
The dressing I chose was blue cheese. Next the decision was what to top the salad with to make it dinner instead of lunch?
I had to decide did I want to make a steak like I had last week and slice it up  and put it on top of the salad once it was cooked? No that was too much work for last night.
With the steak not an option I was down to a choice between tuna or chicken. That was when I recalled the Perdue
original roasted chicken chunks  I had
bought this week on sale. Great idea I told myself and what better way to try this ready made chicken?
I took the bag out of the freezer and opened it and removed a hand full of the chicken chunks from the bag.
I put the chunks on a plate and put them in the microwave for two minutes until they were defrosted and then put on top of the salad.
I was very pleased with the flavor and it made a nice addition to my dinner.
I can see using these chunks for a verity of meals down the line but on a day like yesterday this worked perfectly with a salad.
I looked up on line and found a coupon I will put on my blog in case you would like to give it a try but to save even more money you might want to wait until Price Chopper puts this product on sale again. I have noticed they seem to have a rotation of these products that are sold buy one and get one free like they did last week with this item.
The cost of one bag of these Perdue Simple Chicken Chunks came out to two dollars and fifty cents a bag. That is an undeniable value and kept me shopping on a budget!
I found a few more things to put in my summer survival kit as well and will share them with you in other articles.
I do recommend this one. The price was right and that is really shopping wisely while on a budget!
