Portabella Mushroom Burger
The other day the curiosity finally got to me. For years I have heard about and read about portabella burgers and how good they are and many people claim they taste like real hamburger on a bun.
So I finally decided to give it a try. It was nice out and I put two big fresh portabella mushroom caps on the grill after I marinated them in a Champaign salad dressing. All the recipes I read always suggested that I should marinate the caps in oil and vinegar and various herbs.
I went shopping to get a few things and pick up some salad dressing that was on sale. That is when I realized that most of the suggested ingrediences were in the salad dressing I was about to purchase. So why spend more than you have to spend?
After marinating the mushroom caps I put them on the grill and covered them and let them cook. When they were ready I put them on a hamburger bun with lettuce and tomato.
I liked the flavor a lot but I can tell you they do not taste like hamburger they taste like a really good mushroom.
Later I though about it and decided it would have tasted more like a hamburger if I had used A1 sauce or something like that.
I may give this meal another try but its nothing that I would put on my favorite food list.
I prefer the mushrooms on my real hamburg.
You may like this portabella burger its certainly worth a try and I would love to know what others think of this burger.
Besides it is always good to try new things and expand your food eating experience. Don’t you think so?
Here is a traditional recipe if you don’t want to take the short cut I did by using salad dressing.
