One More Day Of Frozen
Pipes And Dinner
Its winter in upstate
New York and we are going into our fifth day of single digit temperatures and
the fifth day that my water lines are
frozen except for in the tub. The weather station is predicting warmer than
usual temperatures in a couple of days.
Meantime I am trying to
find ways of doing the most simple of doing the most simple of tasks like
showering and cooking.
The shower is a freezing
cold option I don’t care to think about right now and I have to convince myself
to get in and brave the cold water. That will stop soon and I will have to go
to a friend’s house and use her shower because the drain is now frozen. So let’s
not thing about that and get onto a more pleasant subject of cooking. Cooking
is a challenge when there is no water in the kitchen sink. That’s why I am
avoiding having to wash dishes as much as possible. It also means that I have
to come up with inventive ideas of how to make dinner.
Yesterday I made a
delicious baked potato with chicken. Today I am going to make a grilled hamburger
on my George Forman.
That will work because
you don’t wash a George Forman grill in the same way as other dishes.
What I will do today is
after I cook the hamburger is fill my scrubber brush with water and soap then
wipe the grill down with a clean wet paper towel. I will make sure that I put a
dish cloth in the tray that catches the grease so the clean up for the tray
will be minimal.
The hamburger I will
make is from a frozen box of burgers. These burgers are Black Angus and eighty
percent fat free. They are well flavored and have cheese and bacon in them.
I will have a green side
salad with the hamburger.
That should make a good
and filling dinner.
One more day and this
will hopefully be over as long as the pipes outside are not busted.
I will be happy when
things get back to normal in the kitchen and I can make a big juicy steak with
all the trimmings but for now I think I am meeting these challenges well and
will come up with one more creative dinner to enjoy until that steak is ready
to be cooked!
