Turkey and Gravy
Today I am making
a traditional dinner. I needed to use up the last boneless turkey
breast that I had in the freezer and I had though ahead and froze individual
servings of some vegetables.
Yesterday
I put the boneless turkey breast in the crock pot to cook. The turkey weighed
about four pounds. I had some leftover chicken broth so I poured that in with
the turkey and let it cook for four hours. The turkey was done so I removed it
from the crock pot.. What remained in the pot was the broth and the parts of
the turkey and turkey skin. Some people prefer to remove these pieces. I don't
I use a hand held mixer and I smooth out these pieces. I then take some
cornstarch to a little water and blend it smooth. After it is smooth I
add it to the broth and make gravy.
While the
gravy thickens I remove the netting and the skin from the turkey breast and let
it set until the gravy is ready.
Today .I
put away two dinners of gravy and turkey. Tonight I will have turkey and gravy
over some bread with a side of cranberry and sweet potatoes.
That is
going to be a really enjoyable meal and if I went to a diner it would have cost
seven or eight dollars.
So yes I
am saving money and will have leftovers to boot!
