BAKED HAM WITH WINE AND VEGETABLES

BAKED HAM WITH WINE AND VEGETABLES

It was time to go grocery shopping. Not my favorite thing to do but always a challenge to stay on budget.
This month I did not need that much but as always I checked the specials at the stores to get inspiration for meals for the week.
This week my inspiration came from my favorite store Gabriels in Scotia.
They had great values on ham so that was where I would do the majority of my shopping.
They had ten ham steaks for ten dollars wow I said to myself that is a good buy since you can get two meals usually out of one ham steak. When I got to the store the value was even better than expected It was two petite ham steaks to a package.Translated it was two round ham steaks to a package about the sise of a slice of bread. Next to the ham steaks were packages of ham pieces. I found  a package for under five dollars.
Perfect Perfect! Next I went to the soup island looking for Manischewitz  soup mix. I could not find it so I asked the cashier where I could find their Kosher food. I got a huh? Then simplified it to Jewish foods. No they did not carry any. First strike I ever found against this store. Any way I bought my ham and yes since I was there a package of spare ribs since there is the best and went on my way.but  you know the management at Gabriels and I will have a little discussion about not providing for certain segments of our society. I don't expect to have to shop somewhere else for what I need but that is next week. This week I will  get the soup mix and the bbq sauce I need at Hannfords.
When I got home from the market I started putting away the groceries and decided to make a ham dinner for Sunday dinner.
This is what I decided to make:

BAKED HAM WITH WINE AND VEGETABLES

Ingredients:

2 3/4 lb. ham
2/3 c. each onions, celery & carrots
dash of fresh ground pepper
dash of  cloves
1 3/4 c. white wine (a sweet white wine with  a fruity base is best but any white wine will do that you have on hand)

Directions:

Put ham in baking pan.
 Add vegetables
pour wine over all.
Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes
Reduce temperature to 325 degrees for 2 1/4-2 1/2 hours until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees.

Easy dinner to make and diffidently affordable when you make your menu from the specials at the stores.
Also your vegetables are with the ham so your ready to serve as soon as your dinner comes out of the oven perhaps just with some apple sauce or apple slices.
Enjoy!
