What to Do With Leftover Halloween Candy

What to Do With Leftover Halloween Candy

Tonight and tomorrow will be the aftermath of Halloween. You will have a variety of candy your children brought home or you will have some left in the home that you were handing out to the kids.
Either way now we have to decide what to do with all these sweet goodies,
I came across some good ideas I wanted to share with you.
Here are some of the ideas and some websites to give you ideas what you can make:

1. Freeze it

You can add it to milkshakes, sundaes, ice cream, and plain cookie dough. My favorite is snickers how can anything be bad when you add that candy!

2. Bake it into cakes

try peanut butter cup cookies or brownies with fun size candy bars inside, or stir it into icing.
Here is an example of using this candy:
Almond Joy Fudge
2 (12 ounce) packages semisweet chocolate chips
2 (14 ounce) cans sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups (16 pieces) mini Almond Joy candy bars,
    cut into 1/2-inch pieces

Butter an 8-inch square baking pan. Line with enough wax paper to overhang 2 sides by 2 inches.

In pot, combine chips and milk over medium heat cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is melted and smooth. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla extract. Cool 1 minute.

Stir in candy bars. Spread mixture evenly in pan. Refrigerate until firm, at least 2 hours. Use wax paper to help remove from pan. Peel off paper, then cut into squares.
Buttery Toffee Cookies
Chocolate-coated toffee makes these cookies extra good.

1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 (1.4 ounce) chocolate-covered toffee bars, chopped small *

Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine sugar, butter, egg and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy (3 to 4 minutes). Add flour, baking soda and salt; reduce speed to low. Beat, scraping bowl often, until well mixed (1 to 2 minutes). Stir in chopped toffee by hand.

Drop dough by rounded teaspoonful onto greased cookie sheets. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets.

3, Make it a (sort of) healthy snack

Fill celery stalks with cream cheese and top with Peanut M&Ms.

4. DIY trail mix

Open bags of little candies like M&Ms and make your own trail mix by adding pretzels, nuts, and dried fruit.  You can actually buy this trail mix the name is mountain trail mix so if you make it then it can have the goodies in it you like.

5. Thanksgiving

Instead of using marshmallows in on your sweet potatoes use candy corn

6. Pair it with wine or Scotch

The chocolate, caramel, nuttiness of Snickers go great with tawny ports, and the cookie-like Twix goes well with a smooth Scotch, (here is a site to tell you more about this idea
 Web Site: http://starchefs.com/wine/features/html/halloween/html/#at_)

7. Put chocolates into your coffee

This makes for a quick and easy mocha.  Put chocolates into your coffee. This makes for a quick and easy mocha. In Paris I would have a strong French coffee and then I would  put chocolates and cognac.

8. Use it for holiday décor:

Save and use next year for a Halloween wreath.
Use it to make super-sweet Christmas ornaments.
Save it for decorating a gingerbread house
Use the wrappers for Christmas cards or decoupage

9. Send it overseas

Groups like Operation Shoebox, which supports our troops, will gladly take donations.

10. Let's be honest: You can always just eat it.

OK my choice would be to eat all of it but I don't need the weight, or the cotton teeth lol....So give some of these ideas a try especially sharing some goodies with our soldiers that are fighting to keep us safe.
